o, m
y six-year-old loves to read. Like the jumping-up-and-down-because-the-library-has-the-books-I-need kind of adoration/affection/undying love/obsession. Right now his bookshelf boasts a smattering of books including the fifth Underland Chronicles, the sixth 39 Clues, and the eleventh Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events. He rotates amongst these (as well as many others) and agrees, rather amicably, to read much simpler stories to his little sister. (Which is invaluable when I'm trying to lay the baby down.)As his mother, it has become quite entertaining to listen to the budding vocabulary spilling from his jack-o-lantern teeth:
"I propose..." he said one afternoon while tapping his fingers together.
"Oh, I am so ashamed of myself!" He accidentally made his baby brother cry.
"Mom? How many years are in a century?" This was while beginning the fifth Gregor book.
"I don't like these Roman numerals." Frowning at The Little Prince.
"These nails that go in the pontoon are stubborn." This was while working on a craft at Home Depot.
And my favorite, after I commented on my baby's fascination with my wedding ring: "That's because Lincoln's thinking of your devotion to Dad."
Did I talk like this when I was six? I promise you, I most certainly did not; but how I wish I did. Just think how literary I could now be!
Your turn. Brag away to me! Sorry this post comes across as uppity/snobbish/otherwise immensely stuck-upish. But you can't stay too mad at me after seeing me use a word like stuck-upish, right? Right??! So leave a comment, and tell me the cool things YOU or your kids did this week. :)
*If you want a six-year-old as your friend on Goodreads, just let me know!
Your 6yo has great taste in books. I love the Gregor series.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with bragging! He is truly worth every single statement on here.
ReplyDeleteI love that he is into reading. You may have a little author to follow your footsteps! :)
I am going to say the best things is my daughters imagination! She always amazes me!
Kate, I haven't read them but Suzanne Collins is amazing, so I'm not surprised.
ReplyDeleteSummer, thank ya girl. You'll have to tell me more about Audra's fun little mind. :)
Haha, I can totally see him saying those things!
ReplyDeleteThat's great that he loves reading so much, so much fun for both of you.
Yeah, he's kind of like a mini metro commuter--always has a book or magazine tucked under his arm, his legs crossed like an intellectual. He even reads maps during roller coaster rides.
ReplyDeleteTotally precious! Isn't it amazing what reading can do for a child?
ReplyDeleteYou've won the bookmark packet from my October one-sentence debut reviews. Email me your mailing address at carolinestarr AT yahoo, and I'll send them on their way!
That's so wonderful! I would love to be his friend on GR.
ReplyDeleteThis week, I took my daughters shopping, and we had some success - but not of the literary kind. ;)
