Snobbery

Sometimes I just wish I could be a snob. Roll my eyes when a moron blathers idiocy, then offer no remark to encourage the fool. I would ooze excessive boredom. Bestow awkward silences in a group. And I would be sure to never blush.

I would wear the best clothes, live in the best neighborhood. Never buy second hand items. And I wouldn’t dream of feeding my children hot dogs or ice cream for breakfast...

I wouldn't dream of lounging in PJs 10+ hours a day and my children would always be the first inhabitants of their clothes.

I found a web site I completely adore. The creator is “Period Drama Freak,” Maria Grazia, who lives in Italy! I LOVE Period Drama. And all the characters from that era get to be the snob I completely adore. You know them—Fitzwilliam Darcy, Lucas North or even Emma. Read my list above. Would you see Emma nuking a wiener at 9 am just to keep her kid happy? Tell me readers, what would Emma do??

If you love this stuff, check out her site.

Like I said, sometimes I just wish I could be a snob.

  2. I am sure you can get there M. just don't tell people you feed your kids hotdogs and ice cream or boatloads of PB and J sandwiches (whoops that's me).

Maria Grazia! For a moment I got all excited thinking it was my favorite Bond Girl's blog. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002029/
What does that say about me and my snobbery?

  3. Um, I think I am that snob.

    And proud of it.

Favorite quote from my family ever: the day my oldest sister declared that, "Bentleys don't bowl." And I've been living by that standard (and a few other equally snobby ones) ever since!

  4. But why do you have to be a snob to cause awkward silences in a group? I can do that even at my least snobbish. It's a talent, I know. :)

And Emma would totally serve her kids Hot Pockets if she was in a rush to get out the door.

  7. Okay, so are we connected in some way, because...i have been watching the new bbc emma on you tube all day and LOVING her character and thinking that she had enough snobbery to drive you crazy and side w/ Mr Knightly, yet enough genuineness (don't think that's a word) and kindness to still be on her side.

what a ca-wink-ee-dink. :-) have you seen the new Emma? I'm really enjoying it.

    love this post!

  8. well *I* think the best thing to be is a snob on only things you truly like, instead of what is socially acceptable. like, if you enjoy watching jerry springer, definitely look your nose down on those who watch that trashy CSPAN. i shop at walmart and would definitely raise my brow at someone who might go to saks. what are they thinking????? ;)

  11. Nicole! I totally missed your comment! She who first introduced me to Emma herself!! Those were the days, eh? The newest one I've seen is with Gwyneth Paltrow... so if there's a newer one I absolutely must see it.

  12. Oh, to be able to roll my eyes and not care. Perfect post for the week I've had. I'm still too nice, though, and wish I was more like my friend, Rochelle. She says what she thinks (even snobby stuff) and I love her for it.
