Trusting Yourself And Your Story

I made a comment on twitter stating that I'm kind of sad I'm done with this round of edits for THE DOLLHOUSE ASYLUM, and my editor said I should post something. Yes, Danielle, you are right. Yes, I should. How long has it been? So many weeks. And in that time I've been so busy with the rewrites. But that's not the only reason why I haven't posted anything, and it's funny because my editor hit the nail on the head, because she said, "Trust yourself."

You see, connecting on twitter with other authors and bloggers has a way of making me feel small. Like, who am I to believe I have something worth saying? How's my post different from the others? Why should people take the time to read?

And then my questioning goes on to a whole new level. What is special about my book? Why should someone want to read it? And then I realize, because it is different. It is!

Of course, every author says that, thinks that, knows that. But, especially with this round of revisions, my editors are helping me to make a story that can sing.

La!

I am so so so excited for you all to read THE DOLLHOUSE ASYLUM. Because it's a story that is so important to me. One day, I was on the phone with somebody, and I thought, "What would Cheyenne do?" Because someone was saying something that was so not okay, and working on Cheyenne's story helped me take a huge step, do something I should have done years before. And it wasn't pretty. It won't be pretty for quite some time, if ever, but it helped me stand up for something I know is right.

That's when you know you're writing a story worth telling. Something that's important to you. And I wish so badly I could say more than that, but I can't. But if I can trust something, I can trust this: I have a story that in so many ways is changing me.
