Like you, I've been busy. So what has Mary Gray been up to lately?
Well I just finished an AMAZING book. Check out my review of GRAVE MERCY here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/367165099
I also went on vacation. Visited my sister and her family in California. We went to the beach, Disneyland, and I got to see her amazing house at the crest of the mountains. We then visited my husband's parents and sister-in-law in Washington where we visited the Space Needle, the EMP Museum, shot off fireworks with the kids, and went crabbing. We had a wonderful time!
But now we're home, workers are completing our pool (we quickly learned after moving to Texas that the best way to deal with the heat is to go swimming--incidentally it's the best way to deal with Energizer Bunny children) and we're excited it should be done sometime next week.
Life is good! I've been catching The Bachelorette episodes on Hulu as they come in. Emily is such an outstanding person, isn't she? And the last episode where she broke up with Sean broke my heart! I'm cheering for Jeff, but Ari's had my heart the entire time, too.
Before my trip, I finished up my first round of revisions for my editors. They certainly were intensive, but my story is getting so much better and I can't wait to see what they find for me to improve. Danielle and Rich are helping me tell the story I should have been telling all along, and was after all the story I had meant to share. We're also working with cover artists, and we've shot all the material for the trailer, though haven't even begun the editing.
As for the writing, I've been floundering a bit, so I've hired a sweet girl on my street to babysit my kids for three hours every Monday morning through the end of the summer. This should help me focus a bit. I'm working on a concept, but having a hard time figuring out exactly the best vehicle for telling the story. Here's hoping it clicks soon!
So now you tell me. What have you been up to lately? Or leave a link and I can visit your landing pad. This post is all over the place, and I apologize for that, but here it is anyway. Happy Sunday!
Sounds like such a fun vacation of course except for the trying to get home part! :) I can not WAIT to read your book!!! I'm your biggest fan.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, any recommendations of book or books you know I will like? And vacation starts for us in three days! Yay, can't wait to have my hubs back from studying.
Aw, Summer, you are the sweetest!!
ReplyDeleteHmm. What book to recommend. Depends on the mood you're in! My faves lately have been Grave Mercy (I think you'd really like it--you can borrow mine!) Stolen, and The Near Witch. Also, Half-blood and Pure (which are super cheap as e-books if you want to travel lightly). Any of those and you'll be set!!
Good for you for hiring a sitter to give you the head space to write. I can't wait to hear what develops!! Also, the editorial process sounds exhausting and exciting: go, go, Mary!
ReplyDeleteThat's great you finished up with more edits. I've been up all night working on my final (hopefully) copy edits. Your publisher has given you significantly more time to edit than I've had so I look forward to reading your book. It's sure to be amazing!:)
ReplyDelete"Exhausting and exciting." Yes, Jen!
ReplyDeleteKate, how much time did you have again? Do you have a cover you can share?? Need more info!!
I had two weeks for the first edit. Then I had the weekend for copy edits. This isn't standard. My editor quit and the publisher is trying to keep the same press schedule even though they haven't hired a new editor yet. I should get to see the cover this week. I'll post it on my blog as soon as I can. My book comes out in September. I don't have a specific day yet--just trying to get through edits before I hound the publicist.:)
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH, KATE. THAT IS NO TIME!!! I know you worked so hard getting it to the point that the publisher accepted it, so maybe you didn't have much to edit?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the cover!! Thanks for popping back here to let me know!
Looks like things are going great for you! So happy for ya! And jealous about a pool! ;-) I'm so excited for your book! You deserve all the success that is coming your way!
ReplyDeleteI don't update my blog that much but it's aaronicole.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteNicole! You should come visit! :)
ReplyDeleteDude, your family is so gorgeous. Just visited your blog. I need to go back and leave a comment. Going...
You sure are a dedicated writer to hire a sitter. Way to go! And what a fun vacation. I've never been crabbing - I don't think I really know what it is either. :D
ReplyDeleteJust what you think it is: toss a net, gather crabs. If you're lucky, you get to eat them!
